The sound of eager, excited whispers drifted up the stairs as the two big brothers entered the front door of their home. This was the place of years of family memories, but today was different: it was the first time that they would all be together as a family of five. The boys ascended the stairs, hand in hand with mom, and walked toward the room where their baby brother waited to meet them. Standing next to his bassinet, they peeked at this new little person who they had only known through kicks in their mama’s belly and ultrasound photos. The sweet, perfect baby boy delighted his big brothers with his stretches and yawns, and the room filled with giggles as they marveled over his tiny fingers and toes. I watched as they jumped around with glee, darting back and forth between the bassinet and their parents as they excitedly shared all their observations. The joy and excitement in the room was unmistakable, and even though this joyful first meeting was not what their parents had envisioned, I knew in that moment that these memories of their family of five’s first moments together were absolutely perfect!
When Katherine reached out to me to book a fresh 48 hospital session, I was so thrilled to be able to capture their two sons meeting their new baby brother for the first time! Being able to capture a sibling’s first meeting with their new best friend is one of the most special things about being a newborn photographer! However, then came COVID, which brought about visitor restrictions at hospitals and forced us to rethink our original plans. With ALL possible precautions in place, we arranged for their fresh 48 session to happen at home, and I was able to capture Katherine and Daniel’s three boys meeting for the first time in the baby’s beautiful nursery. After having just experienced our firstborn meeting his baby sister for the first time earlier this year, it was extra special to be able to share in this experience their family and be there to capture all the sweet moments! I loved documenting the range of emotions, watching the proud big brothers hold their new baby brother for the first time, and smiling as they shared everything they had been waiting 9 long months to give their baby brother. I am SO grateful that I was able to capture all these precious moments!
