There are just certain things for me that never fail to bring to mind a cozy autumn Saturday morning: crisp temperatures outside, bright, golden sunshine streaming in through the windows, being snuggled up with the ones you love as you ease into the weekend, music from the likes of Jack Johnson and Adele playing softly in the background. When I stepped through Amanda and Simms’ front door for a newborn session with their sweet baby boy, their warm, inviting home felt just like that kind of perfect Saturday morning! I knew immediately it was going to make the perfect setting for some sweet and snuggly first family photos!
I have been looking forward to meeting sweet little Lawton since I first learned that he was on the way, and I was beyond thrilled when Amanda asked me to do a newborn session for them! My husband Jeremy has known Amanda pretty much since birth — they go so far back that their parents were friends in high school! She is truly one of the sweetest, warmest, and kindest people I have ever met, and I have loved getting to know her over the last ten years. It has been such a joy to watch as she and her husband Simms were married and started their own family, too!
And this family session at home — it was such a dream! Their sweet baby boy just turned six weeks old, and I’m telling you, little boys don’t get much more precious than this! He was one of the easiest, calmest newborns I’ve ever had in front of my camera — he slept soundly and peacefully in his mama and daddy’s arms for most of our session and also gave me some sweet stretches and yawns. He even opened his eyes for us and gave us some little smiles! Just darling!
When I asked what she envisioned for her session, Amanda told me that she loved the idea of photos of the three of them snuggled on their bed, and when I saw the way the morning light came in the windows in their bedroom, I knew it was going to be the perfect place to make those photos happen! Their home has the best morning light… seriously, it was the stuff my photographer dreams are made of! I think my absolute favorite shots are the ones of Amanda and Simms snuggling their son in his simple and beautiful grey and navy nursery. I really could have stayed there all day taking pictures of this precious family!
Amanda and Simms — One thing that has always stuck out to me about the two of you is how comfortable you two are with each other. Even in the couple hours we spent together this weekend, it is so obvious what a great team you are, and that will serve you so well on this parenting journey! Thank you both so much for welcoming me into your home to capture such sweet memories of you and your beautiful boy! Parenthood is one of the hardest things Jeremy and I have ever done together, but it is also one of our greatest adventures. I love seeing you both in this new role, and I’m so excited to watch your little one grow over the years!
